Physical Education

The goal of physical education is to develop physically literate individuals who have the knowledge, skills and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthful physical activity.

But there are other reasons it is an important part of your student’s day and life.

First of all, P.E. IS FUN !!!

A recent study in the Journal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research (JCDR) showed that even just 20 minutes of daily activity can prevent depression and stress over the long term. Exercise of 20 minutes or more releases hormones that make you feel good. It also keeps other hormones in check that cause stress, which means you can handle things better before feeling stressed out – like tests and homework.

P.E. improves academic learning.

There is documented evidence that exercise improves academics. For example, another study in the JCDR analyzing 26 years of research showed that people scored higher on tests of memory, reasoning, and planning after 30 minutes of exercise than they did before exercise.

P.E. helps develop important social skills.

Longs Peak Physical Education classes strive to teach the importance of working together as a team, the qualities of sportsmanship and positive leadership skills, how to handle success and failure, and the rewards of hard work. The students will be provided numerous opportunities to develop their physical, mental, and social skills in various activities and games. And, hopefully, they’ll have lots of fun!
